Joe joined Swisher in 1995 and acquired his real estate license later that year. With his computer-accounting, legal-language, and organizational abilities he found a niche in property management, and from experienced mentors he learned nuances of the business. He left to build the operations side of a separate real estate ownership and management enterprise, then returned in 2010 to lead Swisher’s own growth.

As manager, Joe treats each property as his own, and his fiduciary responsibilities come to be second nature. He is proficient in tenant relations, lease interpretation, recordkeeping, and financial reporting. He has built dozens of user-friendly recording and processing systems for financial data, simplifying and clarifying information for property owners, tenants and vendors. Being a stickler for detail makes him adept at assessing regulatory and legal compliance, and allows owners to make informed decisions.

Joe’s love is problem-solving, preferably among people. Being a middle child in a big family he is a dedicated mediator, and when conflicts arise he likes to keep all parties moving in the chosen direction. He has managed hundreds of thousands of square feet of tenant build-outs, including abatement projects and occupied-space renovations.

Our society is increasingly environmentally conscious and Joe has penchants for waste-minimization and sustainable practices. He can give owners alternatives to traditional practices for them to reduce both costs and negative environmental impact.

Joe is an intrepid learner, with a broad academic background including a bachelor’s degree in history from Michigan. After college he served as a paratrooper in the 82d Airborne Division. He has practiced traditional martial arts for over twenty years, earning advanced black-belt ranks, and continues to study and teach. Joe and his wife enjoy playing with their companion dog and cats and, when Sara’s not busy with her MSU classes in veterinary medicine, they also like to bike, hike and practice yoga.
